Inevitably, as we age, hospitals become more and more a part of our life, and their emergency rooms can be the difference between life and death. Here is an app, aptly titled “ER Wait Watcher” that provides the average wait time for ER’s in your area. I read about this morning on Life Hacker. Here is an excerpt from their article:
“If you’ve ever been to the emergency room, you might be familiar with the pain (literally) of waiting an hour to be seen. ProPublica’s ER Wait Watcher tool shows you emergency rooms in your area sorted by average wait time.
The tool is really well thought out and simple to use: just plug in your ZIP code or use your current location to get a map of nearby ERs, sorted by the total amount of time it’ll take you to see a doctor (travel time + average wait time). You’ll also get a number you can call to check the current wait, and a satisfaction rating.”
The best way to get in quick is to know when you can skip the emergency room for urgent care, but if you have no other choice, this tool is worth checking before you leave.”
The ER Wait Watcher is a tool that is FREE to use, and can be found at: projects.propublica.org/emergency
