Lightness and whimsy seems to be the theme for colors of the year in 2016. Pantone has come out with its unprecedented two colors for 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity, which, while contrasting, reside at the lighter end of the hue spectrum. Sherwin-Williams has done it one step further with their color of the year, Alabaster. As in, “white.”
According to Sherwin-Williams, Alabaster (SW-7008), is a “hue symbolic of new beginnings” that “offers a sense of personal solace and revival to weary minds.”
Alabaster represents a straightforward and necessary shift to mindfulness. It provides an oasis of calmness, spirituality and ‘less is more’ visual relief. Alabaster is neither stark nor overly warm, but rather an understated and alluring white.

Combine that sentiment with Pantone’s choice of colors, which are intended to evoke “as a soothing sense of order and peace” and I’m beginning to see a trend.
